Oman were quite Lucky - Igor Stimac
Indian National team lost against Oman in their opening FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers Group E match by 1-2 at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium Guwahati. Rabia Alawi Al Mandar's two strikes shatter the Indian dream.
In the 24th minute, Brandon Fernandes's experimental free-kick well guided into the net by the skipper. In the last quarter of the game 82 minute and in the 90th minute Rabia Alawi Al Mandar two goals breaks the hearts of Indian fans, in the first time he lifts the ball over the goalkeeper and in the second time he unleashes a shot which put the goalkeeper in shock.
The Indian skipper is not happy with the performance he said:" It's difficult to swallow. I think we didn't keep the ball in the second half. It's not easy if we keep giving the ball to a team like Oman. That's something we need to work on. It wasn't easy but after the first goal, we probably held the ball better. It was a good chance of playing at home 1- at 70 minutes.
" The coach will tell how to work on the mistakes. It will be the most difficult match of the group (away to Qatar next week ). As a team, we need to go and give whatever we have. we need to keep fighting and not make the small mistakes which cost us the point." Sunil Chhetri told after the match.
Indian boss Igor Stimac said Indian team loses his shape after the 70th minute. "I was repeating at half time 'don't let this go'. One silly mistake in the distance and it became two mistakes. we were punished. so late in the game to lose the points which could have given us points to fight for the second place.
"They(Oman) were a little bit lucky. My guys have everything. We didn't have many options. We knew we will have problems after 70 minutes with Ashique's condition, who came after a long injury. So we will lose shape in the balance. We couldn't take out five and put another five." Stimac said after the match.
Oman coach Erwin Koeman was very happy after the match he said:" India was very good in the first half I was disappointed with our level with many mistakes. They deserve the win at that moment. But we were better in the second half, we had better possession. We got some big chances. We did substitute because players were tired like the Indian players. We made two fantastic goals."
